Buller Rugby Union
“It is obvious that the efforts to keep up the good name of the Buller Rugby Union have proved very costly”, said the president, Mr J. P. McEnanev, at the annual meeting of delegates on Saturday night, when commenting on a bad financial position recorded in the balance sheet. He added that, although the treatment given’ in Buller to visitors had not always been reciprocated elsewhere, there was little that could be done about such matters. Last season, it had been a case of expenses going up and gates going down. Three life memberships were conferred, those honoured being Messrs W. A. Craddock, who has served 21 years as secretary; H. Casey, selector and referees’ representative for many years; and G. Aitken, an early representative player and administrator, and regarded as one of the pioneers of the game in the district. Officers elected were: President, Mr J. P. McEnaney; vice-presidents, Messrs V. Goodall, R. Pratt and H. Taylor; schools representative, Mr B. Samuels; referees’ representative, Mr G. Mason; delegates to the New Zealand Union, Messrs W. A. Craddock and McEnaney; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr Craddock; honorary auditor, Mr A. T. Ridsdale: selectors, Messrs S. Stewart, V. Goodall and Pratt; committee, Messrs E. McBride, R. Hansby, F. McHerron, D. Simmonsen, S. Stewart and J. Morgan.
