ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. Peter Dawson Cup Match
At a recent meeting of the Westland Football Association it was decided that a suitable date for the Peter Dawson Cup match be Saturday, June 5, (King’s Birthday weekend). As Southland are the present holders the game will take place at Invercargill. WEEK-END GAMES
Fixture for Saturday are as follows: — Senior
W.M.C. v. Taylorville, at Taylorville ( Referee, Mr Pickering). Greymouth v. Blackball, at Blackball (Referee, Mi’ Bishop).
Runanga v. Cobden, at Greymouth, (Referee, Mr Timlin). Schoolboys Runanga v. Cobden, at Greymouth Recreation Ground, 1.30 p.m. (Referee, Mr F. Gray). Results of Saturday’s matches were as follows: —Cobden 2, Blackball 1; Runanga 1, Taylorville 1; 'W.M.C'. defaulted to Greymouth. The New Zealand Football Association was informed at its annual meeting that an Australian boys’ soccer team would probably visit Now Zealand during the present season.
Mr C. F. Ward (Auckland) said the association desired that following the completion of the 1949 season the New Zealand Football Association should send representative teams of each centre on tour every season. With air travel each team would play three matches in each main centre each year in from 10 to 11 days at a cost of about £450. LONDON, April 11. At Glasgow, England beat Scotland by 2 goals to 0 at soccer. England retained the international Association football championship, as it had previously beaten Ireland and drawn with Wales.
