Highest Award for Brave Scout
WELLINGTON, April 12 It was announced to-day by the Dominion Headquarters of the Boy Scouts’ Association that the Empire Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan, had approved the awarfl of the Cornwell Scout Badge to Scout Stanley Bell Morris ,of the Ist Lower Hutt (Richmond ( Group, who resides at 10 Pharazyn Street, Lower Hutt, in recognition of his high standard of character and devotion to duty under great suffering. This decoration is the highest honour a scout can win. As a result of a heart disease resulting from rheumatic fever, Scout Morris was flat on his back for nearly two years, during which time he was extremely cheerful and helpful to those who attended him, with never a word of complaint. He is described as being an example and an encouragement to the other inmates of the hospital at that time. When discharged from the hospital it was thought that there was no hope of his recovery, but by his cheerfulness, will power and sheer determination to get better, he has shown considerable improvement. The Cornwell Scout .Badge was instituted in memory ,of Jack Cornwell, the former London Boy Scout, who in the great sea fight off Jutland in 1916, when the British. Fleet was fighting the German battleships, and although, he was mortally injured stuck to his post, until, at the end of the action, he was relieved, sank down, and collapsed, but managed to ask: “Did we win, sir?”
