BASKETBALL BASKETBALL SEASON OPENS ON COAST

The West Coast basketball season opened to-day in excellent weather, with a grading tournament, matches being played at Grey Main, Blaketown and Cobden courts, both in the morning and afternoon. Three new teams. McKenzies, Gladstone and Rapahoe. are entered this season, Paroa and United not being represented. Kohinoor have an extra team this year, otherwise the numbers are the same, the total for the season being--40, according to the draw steward’s lists on Saturday. A parade of all teams left the grounds at 1.15 p.m. and judges of marching and uniform were busy as the teams marched through the town and back to' the grounds. The bright array of the uniforms made a colourful spectacle, the smartest team being Cobden, and the best team uniform being Blaketown. Miss Ray, patroness of the West Coast Basketball Association, opened the season, in a few well chosen words, and the afternoon's play commenced. Results of the day were:— Runanga A v. Convent O.G.
