BOXING GRIFFEN TO MEET STEVENS

WELLINGTON, April .9. If plans mature, the Dannevirke Boxing Association is likely to be staging one of tho most interesting boxing contests posible to arrange in New Zealand at the present time, the Southern Hawke’s Bay association having approached New Zealand lightweight champion, Jim Griffen with an offer for a match against last year’s New Zealand amateur lightweight champion, Syd Stevens with April 26 being set as the date. Griffen is keen to meet Stevens, who last Saturday beat Bobby Fuller at Palmerston North, but he has asked for an amended purse. In view of the interest likely to be taken in the meeting of the two champions—one a sterling boxer and the other a non-stop fighter—it is more than likely that the Dannevirke association will agree to the amended terms and put on a light that should attract enthusiasts from a wide area. STRATFORD MAN’S WIN There is a possibility that Jack Boyd,, of Stratford, former New Zealand amateur heavyweight boxing champion, will return to Australia with Mr T. Maguire, nianager of Dave Sands., and try his luck as professional in the Commonwealth.
