Mr. Bevin’s Collapse at Reception

LONDON, April 7. “The Foreign Secretary, Mr Ernest Bevin, had a heart attack at the American Embassy reception to Mrs Roosevelt on Monday”, says the Evening Standard. “He collapsed and had to be assisted to his car. He was put to bed and his doctor was called in. The next day he was able to get up and go to his deck at the Foreign Office and make a statement in the House of Commons”. The Evening Standard adds that Mr Eevin, who is 67, has had recurring heart attacks which are attributed to the heavy strain of his work. His doctor, who accompanies him on all his travels, declares that Mr Bevin is “all right again and in no danger”. A holiday is being planned for him, “depending on the political situation”.
