AS from MONDAY, APRIL 19th.. regular checks will be made by the Transport Department on:— (a) Provision of proper and adequate lights on mor.or-vehicles; (b) Adjustment qf head lamps; (c) Practice of dipping. In view of the frequency of motor accidents at night and the numerous complaints received concerning dazzling lights. Traffic Inspectors of the Transport Department have been instructed to issue Traffic Offence Notices with a view to the prosecution of those drivers in all cases of infringement of Reg. 7 of the .Traffic Regulations 1936 as amended in 1939 by Amendment No. 1 of those regulations. Brieflv the requirements are:— (1) Two equal powered headlamps capable of clearly illuminating substantial objects 150 ft. ahead; one red tail lamp visible 300 ft. to the rear and fitted at rear centre or to the r.-ght; a white light illuminating the rear number plate, but not itself visible from the rear. (2) Under no condition of loading or operation may the headlights tilt upwards above the horizontal (when the vehicle is on a horizontal surface) or towards the offside (i.e. right-hand side of the vehicle). (3) Lights must be capable of being dipped in terms of the regula(4) The driver must dip his light when the full beam would be likely to dazzle another driver or the rider of any vehicle (including a cyclist).
