Visitor From China
A distinguished speaker yesterday at the Westport Rotary Club was Mr Frank B. Wood, M.A., a member, of the Rotary Club at Hankow, China. Mr Wood is travelling as a representative of C.0.R.5.0. He was secretarytreasurer of the C.M.S. hospital at Hankow, the largest C.M.S. hospital in China, from 1940 to 1947 and was lecturer in English at a national university in Chekiang, also" m.' member of the International Relief Committee in Hankow. The speaker gave a first-hand impression of conditions in China, ana described the way in which C.0.R.5.0. is assisting in the relief of the people.' In the course of his address he drew attention to the importance of China, which he described as New Zealand's near north, not as the Far East, in Pacific affairs, and he touched briefly on reasons for Japan’s intervention in China in 1937.
