Ross Women’s Institute

The annual meeting of the Ross Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, March 24, with a full attendance. A warm welcome was extended to Mrs Peebles, who is on holiday in Ross, and to two new members. The balance sheet was read, approved and adopted. The president, Mrs R. Jones, read her report for the year, after which a hearty vote of thanks was accorded her for her splendid work. Mrs Gough was nominated and chosen as delegate for the half-yearly meeting of the South Westland Federation lu be held in Hokitika. A competition for the best handkerchief was won by Mrs Gough with Mrs Smythe second. Miss Pavelka, the distric. nurse, gave an interesting address on tile health and welfare of children and the Government benefits now available. A bring-and-buy sale:-: table added considerably to the funds in hand. A spring flowering bulb was given to each member to be grown in a tin and brought to the Institute meeting during the floweing season when they will be judged in competitions. After supper the singing of the National Anthem brought a busy evening to a close.
