CONSERVATIVE GAINS IN BRITISH LOCAL ELECTIONS

LONDON, April 6. British urban and rural district council elections began on Saturday. Labour, Conservative, Communist, and Independent candidates competed for 3,026 seats iji more than 500 districts in the elections, which will continue until Tuesday. No official returns are available. Returns completed by the Conservative headquarters show Conservatives as winning 121 seats and losing 13, Labour gaining 40 seats and losing 95, and the Liberals gaining nine seats and losing eight. No figures were given for the Independents and the Communists. The Conservative Parly’s headquarters in London claims a net gain of 108 seats and a net loss by Labour of 55 seats.
