SHEPHERD’S TRAIL OF THEFT VICTIMS
P.A. GISBORNE. April 2. “This man left a trail of victims from Kawakawa, Whangarei, Auckland, and Waihi to Rotorua”, said Detective-Sergeant Waterson in the Police Court, prosecuting David George Sutherland, aged 27 years, a shepherd, on 11 charges of false pretences, theft and obtaining credit by fraud. Sutherland, who admitted all the charges, was sentenced by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., to seven months’ imprisonment, and ordered to make restitution of £7O. The police prosecutor said that Sutherland started the offences after his discharge on February 26 from Kawakawa Hospital, where he was employed as a porter. He was only released from gaol in December, and was still on probation for theft.
