Ex-Blackball Man Missing on Deer Hunt In Poverty Bay Area
WAIROA, April 1. Frank Leach, a single man, 26 years of age, has been missing from Kaitawa since Tuesday. Leach, with two others, went to Lake Waikaretaheke on a deer stalking expedition. On reaching the scene they decided to separate, Leach going off on his own, whilst the other two went in a different direction, it being agreed to re-assemble at their camp at four o’clock. When his companions found that Leach had not arrived at the camp, they commenced an immediate search, but without success, and then reported the matter to the police. Constable E. A. Dunn, of Tuai, organised a search party last night, which set out this morning, but up till this afternoon no report of the success or otherwise of the search had been received. The country where Leach is lost is very rough, and even if the missing man were to fire his rifle, it is doubtful if the report would be heard from any considerable distance away. Leach,’ who is employed on the ’ Kaitawa hydro scheme, came originally from Blackball, in the Grey district.
LEACH FOUND P.A. WAIROA, April 1. The missing deer stalker, Leach, was found late this afternon by the search party, he being none the worse lor his experience.
