HEAVY POWER CUTS AT AUCKLAND
AUCKLAND, March 31. Restrictions to be imposed in the Auckland Electric Power Board’s area from tomorrow have now been announced as follows: — Domestic water heating hours (unchanged). From 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. seven days a week. Other domestic power to be cut off for an hour a day between 6.30 p.m and 7.45 p.m. except Sundays. Industrial supply, including city shopping area to be cut daily except. Sundays between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. specialised industries and hospitals excepted. ’ Street lighting hours reduced to from dusk until midnight. All new applications for electricity supply, except where commitments have been made or permits issued, will be delayed pending an improvement n electricity supply conditions, Regret that the board had no alternative but to miposo severe cuts in power after the demand for a reduction in consumption Irurn the State was expressed bv the general manager of tlie board (Mr R. H. Bartley). He said the cuts would nrobable continue until heavy rain fell in the Taupo area. Restrictions migh< subsequently have to be intensified if required savings wore not achieved.
