A pretty wedding took place at the Church of the Sacred Heart Runanga on Saturday. March 13, when Annetta eldest daughter of the late Mr J. and Mrs C. Reid (Waiuta) was married to Guiseppe (Joe) eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. Soster (Runanga). The Rev. Father P. Foley officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Mr Jim Ramsden, wore a becoming gown of white satin. The white satin skirt had a lace top with a heart-shaped neck; was buttoned down the back, and had painted sleeves. The frock formed a train, and the bride wore a beautiful lace veil with a halo of orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of white dahlias with small pom-pones. The bride ivas attended by two bridesmaids. Miss Valerie Thomas and Miss Julie Caldana. The former wore a charming gown of lemon georgette, cut on similar lines to the bride, with short puffed sleeves with rucking; wore a feather halo, and carried a bouquet of white dahlias. Miss Caldana wore a smart frock of green georgette, with feather halo, and carried a bouquet similar to Miss Thomas.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr W. Richmond as best man, and Mr L. Zambezi as groomsman. The organ was played by Mrs Sparks and during the signing of the Register, a solo was rendered by Mrs Pollock. On leaving the church, the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by wee Claudia Soster, a brother of the bridegroom. The bridegroom’s gift to the bridesmaids were gold chains with gold lucky horseshoes. The wedding reception was held at Harker's Lounge, where 200 guests were received by Mrs Reid and Mrs Soster. Mrs Reid wore a smart Air Force blue suit, with black accessories, and a shoulder spray. Mrs Soster was smartly attired in a navy pinstrip tailoured costume and wore a pink shoulder spray. The customary toast list was honoured and complimentary references were made to the popularity of the young people, by several speakers, including 'Mr N. Griffiths, and Mr L. Hunter, of the Runanga Rugby League Club. Several vocal and instrumental items were contributed, including a solo by Miss Ellie Cawley, with violin obligato by Mr R. Hill, and Mrs R. Buchanan at the piano.
When the newly-weds departed by the evening rail-car for South Canterbury, the bride wore a smart Elizabeth blue linen suit, with black accessories.
Prior to the wedding, the young couple had been entertained by various sports bodies,, at Runanga, and were the recipients of many useful gift s.
