Most U.S. Executions Were Negroes
NEW YORK, March 31 The United States Census Bureau reported that 131 convicted criminals were executed in the United States m 1946, states the Associated Press. Of these 107 died for murder, 21 for rape, and one each for armed robbery, aggravated assault, and an unspecified offence. Nearly half of all executions were in five southern States; Georgia 16, North Carolina 13, Virginia. Alabama, and Mississippi nine each. Eighty-four negroes were executed, 46 whites, and one Indian. Only one of those to die was a woman —a negress executed in Pennsylvania.
