The Holy See fears the present grave situation may cause a catastrophe, endangering the holy places. BRITISH WOMAN OFFICIAL SHOT JERUSALEM, - March 30. Jewish snipers shot dead a British woman social worker who was returning in a car from visiting a hospital. An official statement, quoting an Arab nurse eye-witness, said the assailants fired shots at the car on the Bethlehem road. The woman shouted loudly that she was British. A further burst of fire followed, shattering the windscreen and riddling the car with holes.

The statement described the woman as a “well-known Government official”.
