Mr. Algie Explains Retirement From Czech Post
AUCKLAND, March 31. For the second time Mr R. M. Algie. M.P., has ceased to represent the republic of Czechoslovakia, which has no longer any official representation in Auckland. Mr Algie represented Czechoslovakia as honorary council before the war, but gave up the post after Munich. He resumed his duties when the republic was reconstructed. but has now received from Prague acceptance of the resignation he tendered about last July.
Mr Algie said the post was in a state of “suspended animation,” because by the growing Communist influence in Czechoslovakia, Mr Algie decided"some time ago to resign his post. He said he explained also to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that his duties in Wellington made it difficult for him to give the necessary attention to the post in Auckland and on this basis his resignation was accepted. A successor from Sydney had been nominated, but had died suddenly, and the Acting-Consul-General in Sydney, who was not a Communist, had resigned.
