Interim Army Service Ended
CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. To-day is the last day of service in the interim Army for officers and men who joined it when and since it was established two years ago. Members of the Interim Army have been given the opportunity of applying for the regular force or for short, service engagement, in the home service section. In the Southern Military District, several men will' be released from service to-day because they are over the age of 60, and several have resigned. Most of the personnel of the Interim Army in the Southern Military District have applied to join the home service section of the regular force. This section has the same scale of pay and the same privileges .as the general service section, but its members may be over the age limit of 40 and need not be. fit for overseas service. Most of the non-cqmmisisoned officers who are continuing in the Army have accepted reduced rank to' comply with the reduced establishment of the force. The strength of the Army will be decreased, considerably following upon the discharge, of those who desided against continuing their Army service.
