TOTE TICKET FORGERY CHARGE

AUCKLAND, March 29

Three men were jointly charged before Mr L. G. H. -Sinclair, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day w : th stealing on March 27, the sum of £47 12s 6d, belonging to the Auckland Racing Club and on the same date knowingly making a false totalisator ticket purporting to have been issued by the Auckland Racing Club, thereby committing forgery. The men charged were Neville Wolfe, aged 30 a clerk; John Proctor Savage, aged 27, a labourer, and Douglas Gordon aged 45, a machine operator. They were remanded until April 5. Senior Detective Aplin opposed bail. “These men.” he said, “were arrested late on Saturday afternoon. ■Numerous charges will probably be preferred, but many inquiries have yet to be made.” Following a discussion in chambers, the Magistrate refused bail.
