Coast Horses At C.J.C. Meeting
Hokitika owners were on the winning list at the Canterbury J.C. meeting on Monday, Messrs F. Freitas and M. Houston succeeding in the Nursery Stakes with their colt Top Deck, bred by them, and being by Top Row from Mauretania. With the dam secured from the Clifford estate, the owners managed to win some good races before she was retired, and she returned one dividend of over a century. A. McMullan, who trained her, also reared Top Deck, and broke him in. McMullan has a yearling filly from Mauretania by Nightmarch. Tiiis filly was offered at the Trentham sales with a reserve of 800 guineas, but did not find a buyer. She is developing nicely. The reserve figure could be secured to-day. Another horse competing on Monday at Christchurch was Palomino, raced by Mrs Freitas. Mr M. Conza, now a Hokitika owner, won the C.J.C. two-year-old race on Monday with Skyzami, which is trained at Hokitika, and was twice placed there recently. 13 TO 1 majority in rumonian polls
