Now Showing: “Hungry Hill” starring Margaret Lockwood and eDn-
nis Price. “Hungry Hill” is a swift-moving dramatic, action-packed film with spectacular backgrounds. The broad sweep of this story covers a period of forty years during the reign of Queen Victoria and takes place in Ireland. It tells of the feud between two families, the Brodericks and the Donovans, over the sinking of a copper mine in Hungry Hill by John Broderick, known as “Copper John”. The Donovans think the land should belong to them, though dispossessed over 200 years before, and Mort?/ Donovan curses John Broderick and his sons and their sons after them, for violating the good earth under the hill. It can be said that Margaret Lockwood gives the best performance of her career, ranging from radiant girlhood to old age. Other major roles are splendidly played by Cecil Parker, Dennis Price, Dermot Walsh and Jean Simmons.
