Beau Le Havre Nowhere— Surprise In A.J.C. Doncaster

(Rec. 5.30). SYDNEY. March 28. The Diver, though little favoured in the Doncaster Handicap yesterday at Randwick, won the race by half t neck in a photo finish, after flashing up in the last few yards. _ The New Zealand horse, Royal Raider, set a fast pace in the early stage, and held the lead to the half mile. At the home turn, Royal Raider was being challenged by Valiant Crown and Star of India, with The, Diver nowhere in sight. Murray Stream hit the front at the furlong, hut Fine Fettle ran him down in the last fifty yards. Then The Diver came into the picture on the extreme outside.

There was a big disappointment in the Autumn Stakes, and it was the New Zealander, Beau le Havre, who finished last, after losing ground near the home turn. The former New Zealand horse, Hiraji, led in the early stage, closely followed by Columnist. Once the. field had straightened for the run home, Columnist moved away easily, and he had the race won a furlong from home. The St. Leger also brought a surprise when an outsider, Oronides. dashed away to' lead the field by twenty lengths at the half mile. Though Fresh Boy and Conductor made valiant attempts to close the distance, C'ronides was still three lengths ahead when he passed the? post. His time was the fastest f3r the race in five years.
