TENNIS South Island Championships

P.A. DUNEDIN, March 28 With the completion of the second day of the South Island, and Otago lawn tennis championships, a fourday tournament, the contestants in the majoi- events had reached the final stages. Otago men were well to the fore in later stages of the nien s singles championship. J. E. Robson (Otago) and O. Bold (Wellington) both won through to the finals. Withdrawal of the Otago champion, Mavis Kerr, upset speculation in the women’s singles. Miss Kerr broke a finger while playing against the Australians, in the north, and by the time that, the quarter-finals had been reached on Saturday the injury was becoming painful. Miss Kerr is, hower, continuing in the doubles with Mrs J. J. Adams. Two Southland players, Miss L. Barrett and Mrs J. Adams, were fairly well matched in the semi-finals. In the men’s singles semi-finals, Bold beat Paterson 3/6. 6/0, 6/1; Robson beat Leask 6/0, 6/1. ;• Women’s singles semi-finals. —Miss Barrett beat Mrs Adamas 2/6, 6/1, 6/0; Mrs Ross is still playing Miss .Robertson 11/9, 5/7.
