ATHLETICS GREY RETAIN V. P. BOOT SHIELD
Al ihough a strong southerly blew, conditions otherwise were good on Saturday at Victoria Park, when athletic teams representing Soutn Canterbury (Timaru), and Grey contested the V. P. Boot Smeld, held by the local Association, whose representatives were again successful _ on this occasion, winning by yS points to 47. West Coast records in several cases were broken. Miss K. Gray (Timaru) bettered the womens discus throw by over 18 feet, with a throw of 95ft. 10-lins. She also won the women’s high jump. Barry. Hill (Greymouth), set a new junior discus record for men, with 129 ft. H\ ins ’ while Schroder (Timaru) equalled the record for the high jump with sft. 9ins. The tracks were fast.
