Go-slow Had Little Effect on Wellington Building
WELLINGTON, March 25. Men working on jobs affected by the carpenters’ go-slow policy were to be advised this morning of the abandonment of that policy in. accordance with the decision tin* nounced last night by the New Zealand Carpenters’ and Joiners’- Union. Builders at Wellington to-day had no comment to make on the decision to resume normal work and inlormation was not. available as to whether all work had been resumed at a normal rate. Few undertakings in the Wellington area were affected by the go-slow policy and it was stated to-day that many of the men had abandoned the go-slow policy ol their own accord some time ago.
The carpenters’ go-slow policy was launched in Christchurch on January 20, when members of the union adopted the following resolution: — “That where members of the union are refused 3s SRI an hour on jobs a general go-slow policy be operated: that in cases where employers who were granted partial exemption from the provisions of the New Zealand (except Otago and Southland). Carpenters' and Joiners’ Award implement a policy of discontinuing payment of' fares and travelling time, carpenters employed by these firms implement a go-slow policy.” This policy was immediately adopted bv all oilier branches of the union.
