Rifle Shooting
There was a fair attendance of riflemen on the Pakahi Range at the week-end. when the West port Defence Rifle Cub held the first shoot of the fifth and final competition of the championship series. Conditions ' were two sighters and seven shots at ranges of 360, 500. and 600 yards. The moderate to strong frontal fishtail wind kept competitors on the alert. The most outstanding shoot was the 34 recorded by a handicap man. Geoff White, whose 34 off the rille at 300 yards was a good effort as it was to score well at 66 yards under trickv conditions were N. Panner 33. J. J. Rossiter and B. H. Flynn with 31. Highest aggregate for the shoot was returned by J. R. Keo.ghan with 99 off the rille. N. Perkins 97. also scored well. A practice shoot will be held during Easter week-end and on April 4 the Club will travel to Brunner for the annual triangular match for the John Robertson Elite Cup. between Greymouth.
