HEART DISEASE CAUSES DEATH OF MINE WORKER
The inquest into the death of William Robertson, a 69-year-old mine worker, married, who died at Rewanui on March 10, last was concluded yesterday, before' the district coroner, Mr M. J. Fogarty, J.P. Robertson collapsed while on the way from the Rewanui station to the foot of the Rewanui hoist incline. Proceedings tor the police were conducted by Sergeant H. O. Hansen, and Mr W. D. Taylor appeared for the relatives of deceased. Mr Fogarty found that death was due to gross heart disease. Roy Masters, a trucker, and Basil Smith, a deputy, both employed at the Liverpool mine gave evidence of having seen deceased collapse about a quarter of a mile from the foot of the incline. Dr. H. S. Ray said that when ne performed a post-mortem examination lie found no external signs of injury or disease, but that deceased’s heart showed disease. Death he said was due to heart failure, the result of soritic stenosis and gross heart disease.
