Collier Hurries to Port with Sick Seaman
AUCKLAND. March 23. To provide hospital attention for a seaman who developed acute abdominal pains during the ship’s passage from Greymouth, the Union Steam Ship Company’s collier, Kaimiro, made a hurried entry into Auckland. The collier does not carry a doctor, and, after wirelessing to Auckland for an ambulance to meet the ship on arrival, she increased speed to the maximum and berthed at King’s Wharf. The seaman, Mr . Douglas John Young, was immediately taken to the Auckland Hospital. He underwent an operation for appendicitis, and was later reported to be making satisfactory progress. ' • ...
