YACHTING KURREWA III. REACHES SYDNEY FIRST
NEW RECORD FOR TASMAN CROSSING SYDNEY, Feb. 3. The Victorian ketch Kurrewa 111 arrived at Sydney at 7.5 a.m. to-day after breaking the race record. Her time was approximately ten days. Nothing has been heard of the Peer Gynt or the Wayfarer since January 30 when both had a handicap advantage over the Kurrewa. The positions of the other yachts in the trans-Tasman rave have not been reported since the day after they left Auckland, January 24. The Kurrewa was hove to in a cyclone, in which she received damage to her sails# and gear, causing her to reduce speed in the final stage of the race. SECOND BOAT SIGHTED (Rec. 9.40) SYDNEY, Feb. 3 The Australian cutter, Peer Gynt. was reported just off Sydney Heads at noon to-day. The official finishing time of the Kurrewa 111 was 7.24 a.m. making her time for the Tasman crossing nine days 23 hours 24 minutes, which will be regarded as a race record.
