DUNEDIN TRAMS GO SLOW WHEN “RUN TO REGULATIONS”
p.A. DUNEDIN, Feb. 3 Dunedin’s civic transport system was again “run to regulations today. The tramwaymen waited tor the late passengers. They crossed the intersections and the points at a very slow rate. They also encouraged the travellers to be seated before starting the vehicles again. There were long waits at some stops, occasionally up to half an houi. These were impatiently borne by many travellers. . The taxis to-day were in demand. One big firm could not supply all the taxis that were required under at least 15 minutes. The position is described as most unusual. On a morning when there was no early train, many ,of the workers arrived late for work as the trams that would normally do the journey in 15 minutes to-day took almost twice as long, and usuallj. only after passengers had waited patiently at their boarding stops. Keen interest in the new regulations that have been prepared by the Transport Committee of the City Council is already shown by the men. Their release is the present deadline for further consideration of the- “running to the regulations,” decision. Two shift meetings, at 2 p.m. and 3.15 p.m.. will be held by the Tramwav’s Union to-morrow. The meetings will not interfere with the present service.
