SOUTH PACIFIC COMMISSION

WASHINGTON, Jan. 28

President Truman to-day signed a joint Congressional resolution authorising United States membership in the South Pacific Commission. The agreement lor this was signed last February in Canberra by representatives of Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, France, Britain, and the United States. The resolution authorises the President to appoint United States commissioners and an appropriation of up to 20,000 dollars annually for the payment of the United States’ share of the Commission’s expenses. Th"' agreement becomes effective when it is accepted by all the member Governments. Australia, New Zealand, and Britain have already ratified it.
