BRIDGE ACCIDENT

FATALITY THOUGHT LESS LIKELY.

P.A. PALMERSTON N., June 5. Grounds for the belief that fatal results attended the collapse of the Whirokino bridge on Thursday nieht are steadity growing less, as widespread inquiries fail to reveal a lorrv or other vehicle not accounted for. It is possible that vegetables seen floating in the vicinity came from gardens upstream. Salvage work is proceeding. The sunken part of the structure has now been removed to the bank, but two motor vehicles have vet to be lifted. The Minister of Works (Mr Semple) visited the scene yesterday. T he condition of Marine Drews and Mrs Peacock, who are in hospital is still satisfactory.
