DOMINION NEWS

WELLINGTON, May 26.-

The second of several road-houses being built for the convenience of troops in New Caledonia was opened recently by Brigadier Barrowclough. “This is not a community centre for headquarters units alone,” he said. “We hope to see as many as possible from outlying units making good use

of the amenities.” He expressed a hope that the new buildings would be extensively used by drivers and parties travelling up and down the island. He had always thought the drivers, especially' in the A.S.C. had a thin time of it. The road-houses were places where they could call for a cup of tea and a spell. The fittings and furniture were supplied through the National Patriotic Fund Board. Throughout opening day it was thronged by troops. Free tea, cordials, sweets and fruit were provided by the Patriotic Fund Board.
