Mr. J. Reedy left for Christchurch vesterday to attend the funeral of nis sister, the late Mrs. Price, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday. Miss .Reedy, Palmerston North, is a sister of the deceased. Miss B. Gadd left to-day on return to Woodford House College, Havelock North.

Mr. A. N. Grimston, District Manager for the West Coast and Nelson districts of the State Fire and Accident Insurance Department arrived last night. Mr. Roy G. Nelson, General Manager of New Action Pictures, arrived from Wellington yesterday. Mr. Nelson is visiting the district in connection with the screening of the picture “Hei Tiki” next week.

The death took place early this morning in the Buller Hospital ol Mr. William Rea, of the Cape Line. A native of Ross, and 72 years of age, he came to Westport many years ago. The late Mr. Rae is survived by two step-daughters, seven, sisters. Sister Catherine, O’Conor Home; Mrs. F. Donaldson, Carter's, Mrs. H. r’. Ferguson, Derby Street Mrs. McGowan, Waitaha, South’ Westland; Mrs T. McMahon, Cronadun, Mrs Brown, Wellington, and Miss Leisha Rea, Auckland; also live brothers, James, Westport, Jack and Myles, Greymouth, Thomas, Ikamatua, and Gerald, Ross. The sympathy of tne community will be extended to them in their bereavement. At the Labour Rooms, last Sunday evening there was a grand attendance' for the community sing. With Mr. H. Swan as song leader and Mrs Curtis as pianiste, things went with a merry swing. Items were given by the following artists: Mr. D. Maloney Mrs. Roberts, Mr. J. McKenzie, Misses J. and E. Mears, Miss Adank. Miss Joy Swan, Miss M. Fox, Masters Swan, Kearns and Murphy. The next sing will be on Holland night on June 20, when there will be several new vocalists on the programme, so a record attendance is expected. Buller District Patriotic Commit' tee acknowledges the- following amounts for the 1943 appeal: Mr. and< Mrs. P. Morgan 10s, anonymous ss, house-to-house collections, Mrs. W. Falla £4 Ils 6d, Miss B. Strachan £3 8s 6d, Miss Harkness £1 16s 6d Mrs. Williams 17s, Mrs. Gemmill £1 4s, Miss G. Strachan £1 10s 6d. At a sitting of the Warden’s Court before Mr. G. G. Chisholm, S.M., yesterday, an application for a residence site on the Denniston-Burnett’s Face road by! L. O. B. Peacock was granted. 1 An application for a water race at Chasm Creek by J. T. Dove was granted. J. F. Marsden applied to surrender residence site No. 1695. The surrender was accepted. There was no business to transact at the Magitrate’s Court this sitting.
