U.S. General Explains [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Rec. 10.0.) WASHINGTON, June 2. Brigadier General Daniel Noce, an expert in landing operations, . whb has recently been appointed to the General Staff of the European theatre of operations of the United States Army, said here: “Invasion operations in Europe have already definitely . begun—quite obviously, we are leading off; with the air weapon. Each step of everything that has happened is happening as it was planned months ago. We are simply 'on schedule with this operation, and I mean on schedule in the present tense.”
General Noce added that the next phase would be the final phase, wherein land, sea and air power would be combined and the end with unconditional victory.
Invasion of Islands EXPECTED SOON BY ITALIANS
.(Rec. 5.5) LONDON, June 3. The Madrid correspondent of the British United Press says: According to reports from the French frontier, Italian garrisons on the islands of Pantellaria, Sardinia and Sicily have been ordered to stand-to because of a fear of imminent Allied invasion. The reports add that the Italian Fleet is ready to sail at one hour’s notice.
