Canterbury Rugby Union decided that of its team of 21 players to go to Westport and Greymouth during the week-end all the players should have at least one game on the tour. Mr E. V. Phillips (president) said it was not fair to ask players to stand on the, bank for two games. This view was supported by Mr W. Cowles, who said that last year one player had been “carted all round the country” as an emergency and had not played in a representative match. Mr O. Hattersley, a selector, said he understood the team had been selected as a team with emergencies. To put a team on the field at least three emergencies would have to be played. THIRD GRADE REPS.
