June 1 The result Of the Fighting Forces Mother Campaign, to raise the Whangarei and district contribution 1o the Patriotic Fund of £10,671. was announced last night, when the successful candidate. Mrs.- Hill, representing the Army, was crowned. .Mrs. Woods. Air Force Mother, was run-ner-up. This campaign has been waged enthusiastically from tlie outset five months ago. . TRUCKER’S FATAL INJURIES. WHANGAREI. June 1. James Tipton, 20, a tVucker employed at the Kamo mine, died in hosnital this morning, from injuries believed to have been caused by the handle of a trucking brake striking him on the chest, which was desperately smashed.
