Messrs G. and L. Schaef leave this morning for Christchurch.

Mr. F. F. Boustridge will return today after a holiday trip to Great Britain.

Miss I. Cron, Okuru, was a passenger to Wellington by yesterday’s air service.

Mr Geo. Scandrett of Invercargill, who has been visiting Greymouth, left yesterday by car on return.

Mr. Charles John Wilson, of Christchurch, has been elected as president of the New Zealand Woolbrokers’ association. —Press Assn.

The death has occurred at Edinburgh, after’ amputation of a leg, of the -former suffragette barrister, Miss Chrystal Macmillan (stated a London cablegram).

Mr John Ryall, for the past forty years, Postmaster at Barrytown, has resigned this office, and will be succeeded by his brother, Mr Denis Ryall.

Mr. J. T. Martin, a director of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., Wellington, has had conferred on him the distinguished honour of the Royal Swedish Order of Vasa, first class, in recognition of his services as Consul for Sweden in Wel-

lington since 1924. Mr. Martin is a ij past president of the Wellington ' Chamber of Commerce, and he was council member - for New Zealand of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the period 1924-1932. —Press Assn.

On Saturday evening a large number of Rotomanu residents assembled to farewel Mr. W. Cowan, who is leaving the district. Mr. J. Ryan, in making the presentation of a sum of money to Mr. Cowan, said that they all regretted his departure. During the eighteen years that he resided in the district, he took an active part in every progressive movement, being a member ot the Farmers’ Union. Hall Committee, tennis club, and an exmember of the school committee. A presentation in the form of a saiety razor to Mr. Cowan, on behalf of ms son Colin, was also made. Messrs J. Baird, M. J. Larkin, H. Hodgkinson and A. Graham also spoke. Mr. Cowan in reply, thanked the speakers for their kind remarks and good wishes. Dancing was enjoyed until a late hour.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Ellen Prendergast, yesterday morning, was attended by a large number of friends of the deceased. Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church was celebrated by Rev. Father J. Holohan, while Rev. Father A. Gregory conducted the last rites at Karoro Cemetery.
