UNITED CLUB’S ANNUALMEETING. Mr A. Warnes presided over a large attendance at the annual meeting of the United Tennis Club held in the Club Pavilion last evening. The annual report Which was adopted, stated there were 30 male and 25 female members, and the finances had considerably improved. The liability is now £836, there have been over £5O paid off during the season, and the sinking fund has a credit of £25, while £2l had been raised by bridge evenings and afternoon fees. Winners of championships were: . (A) Men’s Championship: P. Warnes, run-ner-up A. McKay. (A) Ladies’ Championship, Mrs J. C. Cassels, runner-up Mrs Neville. (B) Men’s Championship, A. Beck, runner-up, G. Hill. (B) Ladies’ Championship, Mrs A. Warnes, runner-up, Mrs K. Reece. Most improved player’s cup won by J. Garth. Mr J. Garth and Miss E. Heinz won the handicap combined doubles at the Grey tournament. The Club had lost Mr R. Kear, for three years tampion, who was transferred to Christchurch, and another top player, Mr C. Burley, transferred to Wellington. The report reviewed the past season as having been entirely satisfactory. The following officers were elected: President: Mr E. Warnes (re-elect-ed). Vice-Presidents: Messrs G. Kear, J. W. Hanna, G. R. Harker and J. R. Leitch. Club Captain: Mr P. Warnes. Secretary-Treasurer: Mr A. L. McKay (re-elected). Men’s Committee: Messrs J. Cassells, D. Heaphy, J. Garth, J. Phillips, M. Connolly, A. Miller and A. Beck. Ladies’ Committee: Misses D. Blair, E. Heinz, M. McKay, M. Seebeck, E. Boddy, Mesdames Cassells and Neville. Delegates to Sub-Association: Mr Cassells and Mr Miller. Auditor: Mr P. C. Heaphy. Sole Selector: Mr P. Warnes. Trustees: Messrs A. L. McKay and A. Warnes. Nineteen new members were elected, and subscriptions were fixed as last year. It was decided to open the season on October 9. Mr P. Beck was thanked for his gift of a silver cup. It was left to the committee to draw up rules and allot the cup for competition, probably for the mixed doubles championship. The secretary reported that the pavilion was being lined inside and the necessary repairs and alterations to the exterior were being made. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the retiring officers.
