Surrounded by a frenzied crowd of natives, the police conducting a beer raid in the Verenninging district, left three constables dead, and one seriously wounded. The police retired firing and wounding several. Twentythree arests were made. BERLIN, September 20. Eighty-eight persons have been deprived of nationality, because their attitude conflicts with loyalty to the Reich. They include two year-old babies, and two others aged two to three years. BERLIN, September 21. The city is pitch dark to-night, although theoretically after the days’ air raid, all buildings in the Wilhelm Platz, including the propaganda Ministry and Chancellery are burning fierely, but the Press claims the capital is adequately protected from air raids,. It declares that “Archies” and chaser planes succeeded in almost neutralising the effects to the attack.

(Passengers in trams and buses to-night, were unable to see the faces of those opposite. Severe traffic jams occurred in the shopping centres. LONDON. September • A new type of Bible, designed to be read as literature, will shortly be published by Heinemann’s with the approval of the King’s printers. It will be without chapters and verses, and certain of the “duller” portions, such as the genealogies, will be omitted from the Old Testament. There will be a rearranging of groups of books, beginning with histories, then verse and the prophets. Prose is being printed as such and verse as verse, and the more dramatic parts in play-form. The authorised text will be used throughout, except Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, Song of

Songs, the revised version of which will be . used. The new Bible, it is understood, will be similar to a volume published in America earlier in the year.
