RUGBY FOOTBALL
DUNEDIN, September 16. F. J. Green, the well-known University of Otago and Otago footballer, who has been selected to train for the third Test against the Springboks, was married this afternoon, at Knox Church, to Miss Isobel Stewart, of Gore. Green, who was licensed by the Timaru Presoytery on Monday, will leave on October Ist for England to continue his theological studies at Edinburgh University. **»**«» Speedy Winger; Speed and determination marked the play of P. Garde, who played as wing three-quarter for United Seniors last Saturday. Although light, Garde proved himself a most dashing and versatile wing man, and he should be kept in this position instead of being placed all over the field as in the past. «»»**»• Had Chances!: Blaketown did not shape as a reii able attacking force against United last Saturday, and although their backs had several good chances, they were unable to turn them to account. The main fault lay in Pascoe’s inability to hand on to his support. He was playing at five-eighth and was caught in possession too many times through trying to go too far on his own. *** * * * Fine Try: M. Keith, the Cobden forward, showed great determination in scoring Cobden’s try against Stars. He secured inside the 25 and simply barged his way through the opposition. **•»***» Defence Saved Stars: The solid defence of W. Mann, A. Murphy and J. Noonan, saved the side against Cobden’s bustling forward attacks last Saturday. The full-back, L. Martyn, was right off his game, whilst M. Connolly was very disappointing also in view of his fine game a fortnight previously.
