Smith Remanded ON TWO CHARGES. [Per Press Association]. CHRISTCHURCH, September 10. “We will not be ready for some time,” said Detective-Sergeant T. E. Holmes, when Randall Reginald David Smith appeared, on remand, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, charged with the murder of William Gaby, at Arundel, on September 10. Dr. A. L. Haslam, who appeared for the accused, consented to a fur ther remand until October 4th. Smith, who is a labourer, aged 26, of no fixed abode, was also charged with obtaining £8 16s 7d in money and goods from Gordon McHordie, at Seacliff, by falsely representing that a cheque drawn on the Bank of New Zealand at Geraldine for that amount was a good and valid order. On this charge, also, Smith was remanded until October 4.
