WESTPORT NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent], Obituary: WESTPORT, September 20. The death took place suddenly this morning at Wellington, of Mr. Samuel Mclntyre, a former well known resident of Westport, where he conducted a successful wheelwright business in partnership with his brother, the late Mr. J. Mclntyre. He is survived by his wife and one son, Mr. A. McIntyre, of the Railway Department, Wellington. State Placement Service: The following are the number of men found positions during the weekended 18/9/37, through the Westport office: Permanent with private employers, 8; temporary, 2; placed with State Departments, 5; total, 15. To date, through the Westport office, permanent work has been secured for men-with private employers: 152; temporary, 16; casual, 2. Total: 170, Placed with State Departments—Permanent, 59; casual, 4. Total: 63. Number of men placed in subsidised employment other than with State Departments, 15; women and girls, 31. Grand total, 279. Rifle Shooting: The weekly shoot held in the Drill Hall last evening under the oi the Westport Miniature Rifle Club, resulted as follows: —•
