RUNANGA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent!. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Mothers’ Union was held on Thursday in the Church School Hall. The Rev. Marks conducted the service for a fair gathering of members. Two new members were enrolled. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Higson, Long and Smith. Mrs. Marks spoke in appreciative terms of Mrs. Long's untiring service in attending to the cradle roll. Mrs. Hilliard, wife of the Bishop of Nelson, also congratulated the Runanga Branch on its fine efforts, particularly the interest they were taking in its sick members. Mrs Spedding and Mrs. Braithvyaite were appointed visitors to the sick during the coming month. Mrs. Marks, who leaves for England on October 23rd., was presented bj' the ladies with a travelling cushion. After prayers the gathering sang “God Be With You Till We Meet Again,” which concluded a very happy gathering, all joining in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Marks God’s blessing. Hon. M. Connolly, M.L.C., who has been visiting his mother, at Runanga, returns to Wellington this morning. Mrs. Guy, left on Saturday on return to Wellington. An appeal has been made on behalf of Mrs. Connolly (whose home was recently destroyed by fire), in an endeavour to raise sufficient funds to replace her home. This old lady is an ideal citizen, and is wortny of consideration in time of need. It is to be hoped that the people will rally to such a deserving cause.
