LOur Own Correspondent]. Mr T. Black, Christchurch, who has been on a visit to Mr and Mrs Erskine, Dobson, left on his return on Thursday. . . Whilst at play yesterday, Patricia, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Mooney, Wallsend, fell and cut her chin on a wire. She was attended by Drl Fitzgerald, and had three stiches inserted. At the whist drive held in the Taylorville School on Monday evening, the prize winners were Mrs Moore 1, Mr T. Nimmo 2, and Mrs J. Bateman 3. The monthly meeting of the Brunner Women’s Institute was held in Wallsend on Thursday evening. Miss Smeaton presided over a good attendance. An apology for absence on account of illness was received from Mrs W. Gutberlet (secretary). Mrs Devlin carried out the duties of secretary of the meeting. The president’s action in forwarding the following remit to the West Coast Federation of Women’s Institutes to be placed before the next Council meeting was endorsed: “That the West Coast Federation urge upon the Greymouth Borough Council the necessity of providing a well-equipped Ladies’ Rest Room in Greymouth, the present one being inadequate in every respect.” Miss Smeaton and Mrs W. Gutberlet were appointed delegates to attend the half-yearly. Council meeting to be held in Hokitka during October. Mrs Bennie (vice-presi-dent) is to substitute Miss Smeaton in the event of her being unahle to attend. It was decided that the annual birthday celebrations take the form of a plain and fancy dress social, prizes to be given for the best costumes. The date fixed for the celebration was October 29. An invitation was received from the Runanga Women’s Institute to attend their birthday celebration on 'October 12. A number of members intimated they intended accepting the invitation. It was decided to hold the euchre tournaments weekly instead of fortnightly K as previously arranged. The motto for the evening was “Perseverance is the bridge by which all difficulty is overcome.” The competition for the evening was the best arranged jar of flowers and was won b” Mrs W. Barber, witli Mrs Gutberlet second. . A demonstration of bouquet making from spring flowers was given by Mrs J. Rodgers. The finished bouquet was competed for by means of lucky numbers. Mrs P. Moore was the winner. A vote of thanks to Mrs Rodgers was carried by acclamation. The hostesses for tlie evening were Mesdames Myers, Senior, Gutberlet and Hopkins.
