[Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] LONDON, September 15. Amy Johnson has qualified as a sailplane pilot, passing the final test of the London Gliding Club. She began to learn gliding on September 10. The Caledonia arrived at Botwood. having maintained an average speed of approximately 128 miles an hour. The flying-boat was again helped by meteorological forecasts and wireless communications, and the thumb-line course set enabled her to skirt the northern side of an anti-cyclone area from the Azores. She travelled at an average speed of between 135 and 140 miles an hour for the greater part of the journey. LOS ANGELES, September 15. Ellsworth announced that he is obtaining a plane for a wide search of the Polar area for the Russian fliers missing since August 18, in the conviction that they are still alive. Sir 1-1. Wilkins sent a message to the United States to obtain "a plane better suited for winter operations in the Arctic, after which he will continue the search.
