N.Z. DEFEATS IRELAND. (From the Special Correspondent of United Press Association with Team.) DUBLIN, September 14. New Zealand had little trouble in winning by an innings. (After New Zealand had batted for another half hour, Ireland scored steadily till lunch. Shearer scored at the rate of a run a minute, hitting six fours and one six. After lunch the innings was almost a procession before the good bowling of Gallichan, Moloney and Carson. Ireland’s second innings lasted less than two hours, the last five wickets falling for onlj' 12 runs. The batsmen were quite unable to handle Weir and Gallichan. The bowlers were supported bj’ keen fielding throughout, fourteen catches being taken in the town innings, including four at short leg by Lowry. Scores:— New Zealand, first innings, 266 (Page 54, Roberts 53). Ireland, first,-160. Bowling: Lowry 1/36, Lamason 1/34, Gallichan 3/15, Donnelly 1/9, Carson 2/14, Moloney 2/27. Followed on, 75. Bowling: Weir 14.3/7/27/5, Gallichan 13/3/26/5. New Zealand won by an innings and 52, runs. LONDON, September 14. Yorkshire defeated Middlesex by an innings and 115 runs. Middlesex, first, 185 (Owen-Smith 77. Smailes 4 for 75); followed on, 101 (Verity 8 for 43. including his 200th wicket for this season).
