SHOOTING ACCIDENT

Kotuku Fatality YOUTH THE VICTIM. Shortly after nine o’clock yesterday morning, a shooting fatality occurred at Kotuku, on the Otira line, the victim being a 16-year-old youth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rowse, of Kotuku. The deceased, Leslie Rowse, set off from his parents’ farm, in company with his twin brother, Lyndley, on a shooting expedition in bush country, about two miles from the Kotuku school. Apparently he was carrying the gun, and stumbled in the bush, the gun accidentally discharging and shooting him through the heart, death being instantaneous. Both boys had worked on the farm, and were familiar with firearms. Deceased’s father had been visiting another son. at Waitaha, and was in Greymouth when the fatality occurred. Constable J. Rodgers, of Brunner, was communicated with and proceeded to Kotuku. where the inquest will probably be held. The late Leslie Rowse was a native of Greymouth, and had been en- « gaged working on his father’s farm at Kotuku. He is survived by one sister, Mrs Reveley (Kotuku), and by four brothers, Joseph (Waitaha), Francis, Henry and Robert (Kotuku), the last-named being the twin brother of deceased. The funeral fakes place to-morrow, leaving the residence of deceased’s parents at 12.30 p.m. for Holy Trinity Church.
