AUSTRALIAN NEWS

[Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] MELBOURNE. September 14. The Premier (Mr Dunstan) in a policy speech, declared that if the Ministry was re-elected at the general election on October 2, one of its earliest acts would be the resubmission to Parliament of the Bill to reform the Legislative Council. SYDNEY. September 14. According to the Official War Historian, Dr. Bean, the late Moore Jones, the New Zealand artist, knew Simpson, “the man with the donkey,” personally. ?This further complicates the mystery surrounding Moore Jones’ painting of Simpson, because it has been suggested by the Director of the Australian War Memorial at Canberra, Major Treloar, that Moore Jones painted the wrong man. Major Treloar said that the artist painted Simpson from a photograph published in the official history of Australia in the war, which later proved not to be that of Simpson.
