The death of Mr. Ellis Parker Butler is announced by a New York cablegram.
Mr David McDougall. M.P., for Mataura, arrived at Greymouth yesterday from Wellington.
A Sydney cablegram stated that the death occurred suddenly ol Sir Colin Stephen. Chairman of the Committee of the Australian Jockey Club.
Mrs. D. Andrews and Miss C. Mullins, Christchurch, arrived yesterday on a visit to the South Westland Glaciers.

A London cablegram stated that the death lias occurred of Mr. Arthur Coward, father of Mr. Noel Coward, the actor-playwright.
Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Dcnnehy, who arc at present in Christchurch, will leave next March for London, where they will make their home lor some years.
The death has occurred of Mr. David Buchanan, aged G 6, of Tiakitahuna. He was formerly president of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association.-—Press Assn.
A New York cablegram announced the engagement of John Roosevelt, the President’s youngest son, to Miss Anno Clark, daughter of a socially prominent New England family.
Messrs J. A. Kimber (Christchurch) and W. N. Neville (Olira), arrived yesterday on transfer to the Railways Department, Greymouth, Mr. Kimber to the Traffic Branch, and Mi. Neville, on promotion to shunter.
Mr. C. F. Jones, formerly of Christchurch, manager of the Oamaru branch of the Farm Accounting Association of New Zealand, and the Otago Farmers' Union Mutual Fire Insurance Association, has been appointed secretary to the Waitaki Electric Power Board.

Mr H. E. Perrin, who leaves on Sat- ■ urday for Nelson, was farewelled by members of the Mawhera Hockey Club last evening, when the presentation of a leather suitcase was made by Mr J. A. Youngson, who also asked Mr Perrin to accept a doulton vase for Mrs Perrin. Mr Youngson and Mr G. Cullen spoke in appreciative terms of ' the work of Mr Perrin during the, two years of his association with the Club, and wished him continued success and happiness in his new home. Mr Perrin suitably replied. The death has occurred of Sir Plunket Barton, reported a London cablegram. He was born in 1853. and was created a Baronet in 1918. Educated at Harrow and Oxford, he was admitted to the Irish Bar in 1880. and to the English Bar in 1893. In 1880, he became private secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He became a K.C. in 18S9. Solicitor-General for Ireland, 1898-1900; Judge of the High Court of Justice, King's Bench Division, 1900-1904; Chancery Division 1904-1918. From 1893 to 1900, he was Member of Parliament for MidArmagh. He was President of the Goliing Union of Ireland.
